Scam Alert: Deepfake Investment Opportunity

 

The Central Bank of The Bahamas (the Central Bank) advises the public to be on alert for fraudulent activities involving the use of deepfake technology. Scammers are increasingly creating realistic but falsified videos, audio recordings, and images impersonating financial institutions, officials, or well-known individuals in order to deceive the public.

 

These scams may:

  • appear as legitimate announcements, investment opportunities, or urgent appeals.
  • use manipulated audio or video to mimic the voices and likenesses of trusted figures.
  • direct you to fraudulent websites or request sensitive information, payments, or transfers.

 

The Central Bank reminds the public that:

  • official notices are issued only through the Central Bank’s verified website and official communication channels.
  • the Central Bank does not solicit funds, investments, or personal details via phone calls, social media, or unverified online platforms.
  • any suspicious communication should be reported immediately to the Royal Bahamas Police Force, along with the social media platform(s) wherein the announcement was detected.
