Press Release: Initial Fast Payment System Study & Participant Workshop
Published: Wednesday July 29th, 2026
In its ongoing commitment to introduce fast payments, sometimes called instant payments, to The Bahamas’ suite of payment options, the Central Bank of The Bahamas (the Central Bank) conducted an Initial Fast Payment Study during the period 15 – 24 July 2026. Facilitated by the Montran Corporation (Montran), the objective of the study was to provide stakeholders an overview of the Fast Payment System (FPS) project, and to conduct a technical needs assessment that would identify the infrastructure requirements for the successful implementation of an FPS for The Bahamas. The study also included a two-day participant workshop, which brought together key stakeholders to engage with the system vendor, the Central Bank and other participants.
The introduction of an FPS in The Bahamas would allow the public to make person-to-person (P2P), person-to-business (P2B), and person-to-government (P2G) payments within seconds, 24 hours a day, every day—including holidays and weekends. As the FPS solution is intended to be SandDollar-enabled, the result would be a more modern, resilient, inclusive national payments infrastructure available to all.
The Central Bank remains committed to keeping the public informed throughout the development of the Fast Payment initiative. As the project progresses, updates on key milestones, stakeholder engagement activities, and implementation plans will be communicated through the Central Bank's official communication channels.
